Aebi Says...
"I think Hedgy deserved it way before me," Aebischer said. "With
the system you have, I think it costs players like Milan a spot when they should be on. But that's the way it goes." -on himself
and Milan Hejduk not included in the 2004 NHL Allstar game
"Things change over the years," said Aebischer. "At first, you're
just happy to make the team and be here. Then, of course, you want to play more and more. I knew it's not going to happen
if Patrick stayed healthy. So I tried to work as hard as possible in practice and when I played, I did my best to win some
games and get a good spot in the playoffs." -09/24/03
"I mean, you get to this level because of the way you played and
not by trying to be someone else," said Aebischer. "That's what I'm trying to do. There's a couple of young goaltenders who
did it [became No. 1s] in the last couple of years and I would like to be one of those guys too." -09/24/03
They say...
"He's played great all year," Avalanche defenceman Derek Morris said.
"Even when he thinks he's played bad, he hasn't. He's been the key to why we win a lot of games. He should have been
an All-Star. He's proving each night he should have been." -02/12/04
''He played a great game, give him a lot of credit,'' Sean Hill of the
Carolina Hurricanes said. ''I don't know if it's him playing great or us hitting him with shots, but he sure looked good
tonight.'' -02/04/04
"Abby is a lot like Patrick in that he's confident in his ability," said
Sakic. "Every goalie needs a chance to show what they can do, right? He wanted the chance and he's excited about getting the
chance and he worked real hard in the summer. I think he's going to be good, really good." -09/24/03
"No question, it's hard to follow [in the footsteps of a star]," said
Sakic, "but I don't think Abby's looking at it that way. He's looking at it as, 'it's my turn to be No. 1.' He's not worried
about filling Patrick's shoes. If you start worrying about whose shoes you've got to fill, you could be in trouble. He's just
worried about playing well and playing his game." -09/24/03
"David learned a lot the last few years behind Patty," assessed Avalanche
coach Tony Granato. "He's five years pro now. He's had plenty of time to learn and prepare for the challenge in front of him.
So far, all signs are good. Again, it's training camp so it doesn't mean much, but I like the way he's prepared himself."
