Welcome to my David Aebischer appreciation site!
I hope you find these pages enjoyable and helpful-- feel
free to e-mail me if you'd like to help me improve them!
David Aebischer is an NHL goalie, the starter for the Colorado
Avalanche, and replacement for Patrick Roy. Patrick Roy retired at the end of the 2002-03 season, and was known as the
Greatest Goalie to Ever Play the Game of Hockey. This site is not about Roy, although there are links to his fan pages,
but Roy played a huge role in making 'Aebi' the goaltender he is today.

Roy was Aebischer's teacher and mentor for three years
while Aebi played as his back-up on the Colorado Avalanche hockey club. Now that Aebischer is Colorado's no. 1
starter, he uses the lessons learned from Roy to play some absolutely amazing hockey.
Aebi has adopted Roy's "butterfly" style, a type of goaltending
in which you go down on your knees often. He has displayed a few traditional "Roy" moves as well- the "Statue of Liberty"
being a memorable one. Roy was also known for wandering out of net at sometimes inopportune moments, a habit Aebi seems
to have foregone.
Aebi has a flair for the expressive play- a spectacular
save, you're-in-my-crease forechecking, willingness to get a little rough when he feels the other team is out of line.
Aebischer is also the first Swiss hockey player to ever
play in the NHL, let alone play as goalie or win a Stanley cup.
Aebi has captured the hearts of the Colorado Avalanche fans,
and his dedication and skill give us faith in his ability to bring home another of Lord Stanley's Cups. Every night
he is out there he gives the Avalanche the chance to win, and win they often do. Good luck to Aebi and the Avalanche,
we're behind you all the way!
